MARTA VÂNIA UETELA, MOZAMBIQUE

Entrepreneur and founder of the start-up Biomec that manufactures prostheses (artificial limbs) from plastic collected from the oceans. With only six plastic bottles collected from the sea, the company can make a prosthesis. The prostheses are produced at low prices and can be purchased by Mozambican amputees (90% of amputees in Mozambique cannot afford a prosthesis…). Marta has also been distinguished as one of ClimateLaunchpad’s “Top 10 Innovators from Africa” in the 2020 edition.
